Podgora rests
at the slopes of the wandering landscape of Mount Biokovo, a
protected national park with ancient mountaineer tracks, glades of wild flowers, picturesque villages, and spectacular vistas
overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The national park at Mount Biokovo appeals to hikers,
runners, cyclists, as well as to those with botanical interests. Daily boat excursions can be made from Podgora to the relatively
unspoiled oases of Bol, Korcula, and Hvar – among the many
islands of Croatia.
All summer Podgora and the neighboring town squares are filled with festivals and concerts
that wrap around fountains, monuments, shops, and small cafes.
Afternoons can be spent parasailing, sunbathing
on the pebbly beaches of the warm sea, or picnicking under the reprieve of the Cyprus trees. Evenings can be spent strolling
along the promenade or dancing into the night at the local clubs.
Nearby historic towns, castles, fortresses, and
medieval villages nestled in the thicket covered mountainside, offer lessons in the rich history and traditions of the region
that no textbooks ever could.
